A Place without Swansby *vikingjon

I hadn't been to this stretch of river for a few years, since the death of a close friend. It was a shared favourite place to spend sunny afternoons and weekend evenings around a bonfire with other friends.
One summer a pair of swans took up residence in the calm waters here before an old mill falls and for a few years when we were lucky the swans would be here when we came to visit. Sometimes we would see them together or if we were alone we could report to the other that we saw the swans.
There are only afterimages now.
