On Any Summer's Day Leaning up against a tree
Not far from a well-known woodland path,
Reading in the sunlight
Splashing through breeze swaying branches,
I hear an old familiar laugh,
And my heart skips once to see a friend
Walking down the trail below
With strangers dressed in left and right.
But as I start to stand and wave, my heartbeat turns to ash
As her eyes clearly turn and meet my own
And yet she saunters past.

Her name lies dying on my lips,
And my vision swims and drowns.
In my head were meetings and catching up
Were I invited down.
Instead I'm left to play the fool,
The ever-smiling clown,
And sink instead, against my guileless tre

Life scripts, and force-fed lies,
With puppet-strings still visible through thin and wavering auras,
Actors in off-Broadway plays hoping for that break-out role
After several thousand tries
For "Jesus--saviour,"
"Siddhartha--buddha,"
"Muhammed--messenger,"
And "Dr. Kildare"
Settling instead for butcher, baker, candlestick-maker,
Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy;
Oprah in the afternoon,
And Tea-parties resurrecting the swastika sign.

"Indoctrination is the key, a better life for you and me.
Get the message to kids at their own tea-parties,
Replace their dollies with Beck and O'Reilly,

Stable of Winds Gathered my songs in a stable of winds.
What an impermanent way to begin.
Had the time of my life and made plenty of friends,
But there's nothing so sad as to sing them again.

Songs of lying
Songs of wishes
Songs of dying

The wind whisked away all I thought was so pure;
Ripped masks off of faces I thought so demure;
Some of them idols and some of them friends;
Some of them lovers I'll not see again.

But some are not frightened by winds when they roar,
Are not moved by masks changing like rotating doors;
Don't begrudge a long song in the caskets of friends;
But there's nothing so sad as to sing them again.

Left-Handed Dog Walked the desert with a left-handed dog,
Didn't know he'd be my actuator,
But he liked to chase after rabbits and snakes,
If I hadn't followed he'd be gone forever.

Pretty soon we'd gone miles over sand and stone,
I'd want to go high but he'd go low,
A left-handed dog with me in tow,
And that's where we'd find the water.

He liked to look up at the blue-black sky,
A toothpaste-splatter astronomy,
And howl like songs that make you cry
To the world's cheironomy.

Walked the desert with the left-handed dog,
His nose for bounty far better than mine.
We taught each other how to love the wild,
And we lost all track of friends and time
Calorimetry I'm an exo- exo- I'm an exotherm.

My blood is heat,
My life is warm,

Exoticism is the norm.
Normalcy need not apply,
Ours is but to do or die,

Feeling hunger's pang.

Ride white lightning waves of fire,

Wielder of the secret flame,
Sailor of the firestorms,
And still my fire's warm;
Rain is steam to exotherms.

My stray cat, the Orange Kitty. One night I came home from a party and found him sitting on my front step. It was five degrees F outside. I picked him up (which he didn't like) and put him inside my coat and sat with him until he warmed up (which he did). I refused to let him inside because I had just lost my cat to feline leukemia and had sworn off cats. Five years later he doesn't have to sit there long before I come let him in, feed him, and we go curl up in bed and get warm. :)
