Reflections on The Past

The former house of a friend of my grandmother's who was a native of Ocracoke Island, North Carolina, USA. "Simon O'Neal Jr., 'Simey' as we called him, had the bluest blue eyes you've ever seen!" she'd say. In fact, later when given a siamese cat she named her "Simey" despite the gender difference, because of her deep blue eyes. "Simey" the cat, who was born a year before me, lived with my grandmother in Williamsburg, Virginia, then later they both moved in with us in Delaware, and lived on Ocracoke Island in the summers. She lived to the ripe old age of 22 years, but unfortunately Simon O'Neal had died many years before. The house, built by Simon's father in 1900, is for sale now, to anyone willing to preserve the house. [link]

Currently, the island is being evacuated in preparation for Hurricane Irene.
