Literature Text

Where I walked the angels ran,
Their purity maligned,
With horrified faces as I laughed,
Disquieted by my kind,
Not quite evil, not quite good,
I walk the center path.
Approached by emissaries from either side,
I just walk and laugh.
The center path is lonely;
I alienate my friends
Who turn to good or turn to dark.
I can't commit to them.
My road is in the middle,
It was chosen long ago.
It was given to me to know both sides,
And in my work they're shown:
Lightness into dark,
Darkness into light,
But when the two collide in battle
It's all alone that I must fight.

Where I walk the demons run;
They can't abide my face
Which shines white light, bright as the sun,
And puts them in their place.

This poem is just approaching 12 years old. Since then I've moved a little more into the light. I'm allowed to fight on the side of good now, but I still keep close to the fence as a scout to watch for demons. And when I find them I kill them or drive them back across the barrier or into the light where they shrivel and smoke. Since I know WHAT they are, I know what their weaknesses are. That's always been the plan these many a long year. ;)
